Case Studies: Kit Launch 2011/12

Villa Park was back at the forefront of the kit launch campaign for Aston Villa’s 2011/12 season.

If 2008/09 involved build-up shots at the stadium and 2009/10 included iconic match shots, 2011/12 went inside the ground and into the dressing room.

It included images of Gabby Agbonlahor, Marc Albrighton and Nathan Delfouneso posing inside the hallowed room – even if the imagery was actually shot at Bodymoor Heath rather than Villa Park!

Agbonlahor was pictured in full ‘changing’ mode, about to put on his Nike boots while wearing both the home and away kits in different shots.

Albrighton and Delfouneso were pictured posing while standing up.

All three also were included in more arty imagery, their pictures imposed on iconic shots of the stadium.

Interestingly, this was the first season where the club did an overseas kit launch.

The one on foreign soil took place in Hong Kong during the pre-season tour and involved Darren Bent, Richard Dunne, Agbonlahor and Albrighton.

The kit itself caused quite a stir – well not the strip, more the socks which were black rather than blue.

However, inspiration was drawn from the past with black socks evident in kits from 1924-1957.

The kit sponsor for this season was Genting.
