Case Studies: Stare Off

Just as long-form content was a priority for the media and content team during my time with Aston Villa, so too were bitesize video pieces.

While there was a push to put out shorter promos on Twitter and Facebook to drive people through to the extended pieces on YouTube, it was also vital to create bespoke video content for those sort of channels, too.

Step forward, ‘Stare Off’.

With a ‘Street Fighter’ look and feel to exemplify the ‘battle’ ahead, this feature series pitted player v player, with the key purpose forcing your opponent to laugh.

This appeared exclusively on the club’s Facebook page and included the likes of John Terry, Sam Johnstone, Mile Jedinak, Jonathan Kodjia and Chris Samba.

This was followed up with a special ‘Superbowl Stare Off’ which saw Tammy Abraham, representing the New England Patriots, take on Lovre Kalinic, supporting the LA Rams.

This NFL edition offered a way of bringing the club into the social media conversation of an event which draws audiences of over 110 million.
