Case Studies: Unclassic Commentary

This series formed part of a passion to improve and enhance the club’s video offering on main long-form channel, YouTube.

Previous content had been confined to standard fare such as press conferences, player interviews and post-match reaction.

However, the media and content team wanted to bring some depth, character and humour to the party – and obviously help raise figures, too.

This was most clearly seen in the ‘Unclassic Commentary’ series.

This saw Scots Robert Snodgrass and John McGinn provide anchor punditry, with fellow players joining them to talk through classic matches they’d played in.

Those who headed into the commentary box included John Terry, Tammy Abraham, Anwar El Ghazi and Andre Green.

These all measured favourably in terms of numbers on YouTube, with the highest – Robert Snodgrass alongside Jack Grealish – hitting 89k views.
