He didn’t make the impact he would have wanted in the claret and blue but Andre Moreira’s arrival at Aston Villa certainly caused ripples on social media.
In line with the content team’s disruptive strategy with transfer announcements – including John Terry, Yannick Bolasie and Lewis Grabban – the thinking caps were on as the first signing of 2018/19 was due at the Training Ground.
Coming just days after the final of ITV hit show Love Island, it was decided to use the reality show as the inspiration for the goalkeeper’s arrival.
The announcement video starts with a clip of contestant Samira Mighty loudly telling her housemates ‘I got a text! – a phrase now synonymous with the show.
And just like in Love Island – up popped a message revealing a male contestant was joining.
The text read: “We are delighted to confirm that Andre Moreira has entered the Villa! #SozForKeepingYouAllWaiting #HesaKeeper.”

The fans saw the funny side of the unveiling, with one tweeting: “This might be the best way to announce a new signing.”
Meanwhile The Sun called it “hilarious”, TalkSPORT said it was “brilliant” while the Daily Mail described it as “ingenious”.
All in all, yet another job well done.
